Join Ellen Bahr from Alfred University for the next Spotlight on SUNY Libraries.  The Spotlight series showcases the great work happening in SUNY libraries and fosters a network of collaboration among SUNY librarians and library staff. 

Presentation Title: Mentoring on a Shoestring: Creative Approaches to Expanding Mentoring Opportunities for Tenure Track Librarians 

Description: Many of us recognize the value of mentoring but may feel overwhelmed with the idea of creating a mentoring program from scratch. This presentation will look at recent efforts at Alfred University to expand mentoring opportunities by building on things we already do and thinking creatively about mentoring relationships. The presentation will include background information on mentoring, results from a needs assessment conducted at Alfred University, and a description of Alfred’s newly expanded mentoring program which remains a work in progress. The presentation will conclude with an overview of steps that participants might take to expand mentoring opportunities in their own libraries. 

About the Presenter: Ellen Bahr is a librarian at Alfred University, where she is responsible for the ongoing development of library systems for the Alfred University Libraries, which comprise Herrick Memorial Library and the Samuel R. Scholes Library of Ceramics. She has an M.L.I.S. from Rutgers University and an M.A.in French Studies from NYU.  

Spotlight on SUNY Libraries is designed to be an informal conversation about specific topics related to SUNY libraries.  After a presentation from our SUNY colleagues, there will be time to ask questions, chat, and discuss.  The session will be recorded for those who cannot attend, and associated documents and resources will be shared out.
