Spotlight on SUNY Libraries: Faculty Information Literacy Workshops for Authentic Core Competency Assessment Online

*A Zoom link will be sent after you register.*

Join Lisa Hoff and Michelle Malinovsky from Onondaga Community College for the next Spotlight on SUNY Libraries.  The Spotlight series showcases the great work happening in SUNY libraries and fosters a network of collaboration among SUNY librarians and library staff.

Presentation Name:  We’ve Got an Outcome for That: Faculty Information Literacy Workshops for Authentic Core Competency Assessment

Description:  With the new SUNY Core Competency of Information Literacy and work across OCC’s campus in re-evaluating courses for SUNY Gen Eds, we wanted to ensure faculty considered authentic information literacy strategies in their classrooms and assignments. In collaboration with our Title III grant team, we created an incentivized workshop for faculty focused on 1) understanding the true definition of information literacy 2) engaging in discussions with other faculty on gaps in student research skills and 3) providing suggestions for assignment revision to include, and assess, information literacy in their classrooms. This session is focused on discussing our workshop and its success.

About the presenters:

Lisa Hoff is a Librarian/Associate Professor and Library Department Chair at Onondaga Community College. She is the campus coordinator for Open Education Resources and is a long standing member of the Faculty Standing Committee for Learning Outcomes and Assessment.
